August 05, 2017

The Torch Relay is one of the biggest and most emblematic events of the Olympic Games. The Torch Relay inspires people around the world, brings excitement leading up to the Games, and leaves unforgettable memories.

As the first event to officially open the Olympic Games, the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Torch Relay serves as an invitation for people to join in, bringing excitement and creating a nationwide Olympic atmosphere. It also introduces Korea’s rich culture and various tourist attractions along the Torch Relay route, making them part of the Olympic legacy.

The PyeongChang 2018 Olympic Torch Route will visit some of the wonderful places that had not been well known to the world, unlocking Korea’s hidden charms for 101 days.

The Olympic flame will let everyone shine

The five pillars on the upper part of the torch are designed to resemble a burning flame, while the pentagon shapes at the top and bottom parts symbolise the five continents of the world.
The Olympic flame that will be rising from the five pillars symbolise unity among the people across the five continents under the Olympic spirit. The star sign representing the first consonant of the second syllable of the Korean alphabet for PyeongChang is engraved on the outside of the ignition hole to symbolise the Games’ vision for opening new horizons.
The gold-coloured inner layer of the torch is designed to look as if it is part of a large “flame” once the torch is lit, reflecting the gentle light between the five pillars.
